Raffle Tips

Why a raffle fundraiser?

Conducting a raffle is a very effective fundraiser because it is a win-win situation for both parties: the organisation and the participants.  For a small amount the participants can have a chance of winning an appealing family holiday. The organisation’s win big because the amount's raised can be very substantial in a short period of time.

Community Spirit Fundraising is committed to ensuring your raffle is a great success.

The following tips should double or triple you raffle ticket sales!

Tips

  • Set a reasonable timeframe for selling tickets, we recommend a minimum of one month

  • Consider stretching your goals and go for a larger package selling tickets over a longer period of time

  • Set ticket sales goals and work towards them.  Give updates of your progress in newsletter/notice board

  • State on the tickets what the funds raised will go towards eg: New playground equipment

  • Combine the selling of tickets with a School fete/cake stall/sausage sizzle or similar

  • Door knock in your area (Children should always be accompanied by an adult)

  • Leave raffle books on counters at local businesses

  • Sell tickets in the street to the general public

The best place to sell a lot of tickets is in high-traffic locations such as shopping centres, grocery stores, newsagents, home improvement stores, etc.

Get permission from the store manager ahead of time to set up a table outside the entrance. Pick times when there are a lot of shoppers and position your table so it's easily seen as people approach the store.  Place your advertising posters around your table.

Sales Targets

These are your target markets:

  • Family
  • Friends
  • Neighbours
  • Co-workers
  • General public

The last group is by far the largest, so that's where you need to focus your sales efforts. However don’t underestimate or ignore the other groups.

When approaching people

Always be courteous, cheerful and polite. Make sure you introduce yourself and explain;

1. Who you are raising funds for and why

2. The holiday draw prize they could win

3. The ticket price
